Want your band to come out to Tofino or Ucluelet, get in touch with us and we'll help you set it up.... usually at no cost, just to network and help keep the live music community out here fresh and friendly. Also, we may be able to rent you sound gear and back line. Email BallisticPig@gmail.com and let us know what sort of venue you're looking for.
Jack's Waterfront Pub: in The Marina West Motel (Bar gig, no cover, small stage, usually just weekends). Jack's also host a Monday night jam that travelling musicians may want to visit. Talk to Graeme
The Tofino Legion: shows had been run almost exclusively by a single promoter for about a decade. In 2013 this has changed but it's still sort of complicated. They have a modest PA. Get in touch if you want to play here and we'll connect you to the manager (capacity about 200, ticketed shows, generally only Saturdays)
The Clayoquot Sound Community Theatre: 70ish seat theatre with minimal sound system, great for more "cultural" shows, can be rented for events (you'll need your own liquor license and all that comes with it if you want to sell drinks)
Jamie's Lounge: Tuesday nights Jamie's books smaller acts for a 2 hour gig starting at 9pm. Appropriate sound gear is provided and booking can be made to include accommodations. Payment is a modest guarantee. These gigs are booked by "Jill" contact info at www.tofinoranforestinn.com
House Concerts: A local musician named Candace throws a number of small house concerts. Find out more on her Facebook page
Official's Sports Bar Does a show or 2 per month during the summer months (house owns basic PA, Saturdays mostly). Ask for Dale
The Army, Navy, Air force Club holds shows with local and visiting bands and DJs quite regularly through the summer. No sound gear, band plays for the door
Black Rock Oceanfront Resort On Thursday nights Geoff plays the Black Rock's lounge. Sometimes he needs a night off. If you're looking to play a Thursday night here on the coast let us know. Appropriate for acoustic acts. Black Rock also hosts a number of larger events throughout the year.
In Port Alberni we've played at The Blue Marlin Inn, a fairly straight up bar gig with possible accommodations and no sound system to speak of. We've also played The Rainbow Room which is more of an event specific venue where you play for the door, great sound system and lights! Finally Char's Landing is a charming venue for acoustic acts.
Other Options There are also a number of cafes and restaurants that end up with shows here and there as well as a community hall and some conference type rooms that can be rented for shows. Also, depending on the time of year you are booking for events like The Pacific Rim Whale Festival (March), The Pacific Rim Arts Summer Festival (Early July), Canada Day, Otalith Music Festival (Late Augut), Ukee Days(Late July), etc. may be worth investigating
If you have a venue on Vancouver Island you'd like have added here or have more info about one that's already listed please send some the info to BallisticPig@gmail.com
